An opportunity for a seasoned E&O underwriter ready to take the next step in their development. The role involves both the underwriting of accounts/programs and the mentoring of junior staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality service and follow-up to assigned producers, regarding risk improvements, correct coverage classifications, proper pricing and rates, accurate claims history, and cancellations if warranted.
  • Be a mentor to junior staff and build a team environment.
  • Develop and maintain positive producer relationships, ensuring issues and concerns are addressed and resolved.
  • Evaluate, select and establish/negotiate appropriate pricing levels for individual risks, adhering to corporate underwriting guidelines.
  • Enhance and broaden existing knowledge base in the underwriting discipline through internal and external training programs; keep abreast of industry trends/developments and regulatory changes to ensure state-of-the art insurance coverages and packages for targeted markets.
  • Maintain knowledge of competitive marketplace.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years E&O underwriting experience, with exposure to D&O or General Liability.
  • Experience managing and underwriting program business.
  • High comfort level analyzing financial statements.
  • Working knowledge of claims, loss control, reinsurance functions, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and enhance broker and inter-departmental relationships.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, as well as demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Effective analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to focus on the customer, and their needs, ensuring a high quality of service is provided.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and changing priorities in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Post-secondary education preferred.
  • CIP/FCIP designation or actively pursuing professional underwriting designation.
  • Ability to work in a highly automated environment.
